Our Archive
The Archive section of this website provides a detailed history of the locations within the area defined by the Society as "Stocksbridge & District."
The selection of areas featured here is not based on parochial or other administrative boundaries, but rather on the historical significance of each location. As well as a separate entity for the steel works itself.
In addition to a comprehensive collection of photographs, we are pleased to offer access to a range of historical publications, including the Joseph Kenworthy Handbooks and the Fox Magazines. These publications, issued by the local steelworks management between 1946 and 1966, contain valuable articles documenting the industries and events that shaped our past.
Among the industries featured are the mining of coal, lead, clay, ganister, and others. For the convenience of those wishing to explore specific topics, we have compiled inventories of the materials available within these collections.
An Inventory of Articles featured in the Fox Magazines and Kenworthy Handbooks can be found on their respective pages within this website.
An Inventory of Other Materials is available in the "Other Material Sources" section.
As stated throughout this site, this is only a selection of the material in our archive, and we continue to expand our collection.
If you are looking for specific information and are unable to find it on our website, please don't hesitate to Contact Us. We will be happy to assist you in locating the materials you need.
